Technology
Technology is very important in education. If part of our job as educators is to prepare students to be successful individuals, then it is necessary for us not only to educate ourselves on the latest technological advances but to incorporate them into our lessons. Technology is almost like another language and one which most children understand well. The use of the Internet, blogs, SMART Boards, iPads, and many other devices can help us relate to our students and it can make our lessons more effective.
There are many ways in which I use technology in my physical education classes. From demonstrating techniques using YouTube videos to gathering data by using apps on an iPad or iPhone. Heart rate monitors and pedometers are other examples of how technology can be used in PE. Students can be asked to blog or tweet about their physical activity, to research proper techniques, and/or discover new fitness exercises and ideas online. They can even use programs like Fitocracy to log their activity which then rewards athletes with awards, points, and levels based on what they've accomplished.
